Before the release of Pastorale, the name Qin Gan belonged to a watchmaker who grew up in the mountainous city of Chongqing. After more than 30 years of antique watch restoration and trying dozens of watches with different complications, watchmaker Qin Gan decided to release watches named after himself. Today, the name Qin Gan represents works with distinctive characteristics and a unique horology story.
Qin Gan is the Chinese phonetic spelling, pronounced as Chin-Gan. Just like the different spellings, Qin Gan's work creation also has different genes from Swiss watchmaking. Watchmaker Qin Gan grew up in a Chinese city with a population of tens of millions. He experienced China's ten years of turmoil then reform and opening up. He was forced to work in various jobs to make ends meet until he was free and confident enough to chase his passion. The style of Qin Gan's works ranges from Chinese micro-painting and micro-carving, mechanical automaton, to the simple elegance of his first official work Pastorale. The process condenses the watchmaker's understanding of art and mechanical functions from complex to simple, and also balances cultural differences with industry standards.
